1. Opening:
The April 29, 2011 BAHRMA Board meeting began at 7:30 a.m. with breakfast at the NASA Road Hilton.

2. President:

BAHRMA currently has 102 active members, of that total, 63+ are also members of SHRM. Focus of today’s meeting was the 2011 SHAPE Goals for the BAHRMA Chapter.  BAHRMA was awarded the Bronze Award for 2010.

3. Discussion:

a. Discussion around the requirements for the Gold and Silver Awards.  Currently we are working towards the Silver Award with two additional chapter initiatives: Workplace Readiness (NASA Outplacement) and College Relations (Scholarships).  BAHRMA achieved 119% growth last year and that will count towards our “Membership Star” recognition for growth of SHRM membership.  We will also serve as a resource to our community by educating/informing the community on HR issues through press releases.

b. Discussion around the new Scholarship Program for Fall 2011- Spring 2012.  Frank and Sarah drafted an application, a BAHRMA Scholarship Accomplishments and Goals, and a Declaration for Applicants.  We discussed eligibility requirements and voted that we select a neutral third party to award the scholarships.

c. A total of $2000 in scholarships will be awarded annually.  Scholarship amounts must be applied to tuition, books, lab fees, and related school fees.  Amounts cannot be applied to room and board.  The number of recipients and scholarship amounts are to be determined by the Scholarship Committee on an annual basis and in accordance with the number of applicants, their qualifications, and course of study.  Participating colleges and universities include: Rice University, San Jacinto College, University of Houston- Downtown and University of Houston- Clear Lake. ***Scholarship recipients will be announced at the September luncheon.

d. Additionally, a $500 Scholarship will be awarded annually to a BAHRMA member to be used towards the cost of classes or training material needed to obtain their PHR or SPHR certification.

e. Discussion around forming a South BAHRMA sub-chapter in effort to partner with HR professionals in Galveston, Texas City, and other South Galveston County colleagues.  Decision reached to schedule a July breakfast meeting in Texas City at the Casa Ole’ Restaurant. Recommended topic: hurricane preparedness.

f. Decision made to cancel July and August luncheon’s at Cullen’s Restaurant.  The July meeting will be offered as a breakfast meeting described above.  August luncheon will be cancelled due to historically low attendance during the final summer month.

g. Discussion around future luncheon topics.  June- Robin Kessler to discuss “ Increasing Success in Competency Based Organizations”.

h. Discussion regarding Survey results.  Recommendation made to put stars on the name tags of new attendees so we will be able to identify them and welcome them to the group.  Also recommended for Board members to put personal items at different tables before luncheon begins.  This will allow us to better separate ourselves and network with BAHRMA members.

4. Action Items:
a. Reminder to advertise the May 18th BAHRMA Simulcast at the University of Houston- Clear Lake.
b. Paula to research purchase of credit card machine for use at monthly luncheons.
c. Kim Rauch was authorized to purchase BAHRMA logo tablecloth for luncheons.
d. Next BAHRMA Board meeting is scheduled for Friday, May 27, 2011, at 7:30 a.m. at NASA Road Hilton.
e. Next BAHRMA General Population meeting will be Thursday, May 5, 2011, at Cullen’s Restaurant. Nelsey Gomez will be presenting   I-9s for the May luncheon
